Master Internship: Flow Detachment Modelling in CFD Simulation
Flow detachment modelling of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation for intern flow
Job description
The majority of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulations performed in industry are using Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) model because of its robustness and its computational efficiency. The drawback is on results accuracy especially for simulations involving complex geometries. It is necessary to better understand the models and the results of the simulation software used (StarCCM+) to go a step further in quantitative prediction.
The goal of this project is improve the modelling of flow detachment and of wake behind sensors. The candidate will start by reviewing the literature available on CFD validation. The candidate will build models to replicate simulations from knowledge database (ERCOFTAC, NASA etc). The candidate will improve his simulations to match as possible the reference data within a reasonable computation time.
Several aspects can be investigated: mesh in boundary layer and behind sensors, turbulent models in bulk and in boundary layer etc.
Your profile
We are looking for:
- An independent trainee with a good background in fluid dynamics and with experience in CFD simulations;
- Knowledge on (diesel) engine is appreciated;
